The town's annual budgetary town meeting and a special town meeting to approve a project to replace the South Windham Fire Station will be held Saturday, June 13, 2015 beginning at 9:45 a.m. in the Community Center gym.
The annual budgetary town meeting is the last step in the municipal budget approval process. At its meeting of May 26, 2015 the Town Council unanimously approved a proposed budget of $15,579,836. If approved by town meeting, the municipal budget would increase the total property tax rate by an estimated 0.2 mils (or about 20 cents per thousand dollars of assessed valuation).
The special town meeting that will immediately follow the conclusion of the annual town meeting is to consider a project to replace the South Windham fire station. The project involves the acquisition and renovation of the former Maine Cedar Log Homes manufacturing facility at 33 Main Street at an estimated cost of not more than $1,668,000.
With financing estimated over twenty (20) years, the total cost is projected at $2,193,891. Replacement of the existing South Windham fire station was one of the options identified in a capital facilities master plan completed in 2014.
