[ARCHIVED] *NEW program - Introduction to Recreation Kayaking

Sebago Trails will be using Chaffin Pond at the Donnabeth Lippman Park to hold this program. For anyone who has ever wished to learn about Kayaking, here is the perfect opportunity. This program will meet on 2 Thursday evenings , July 10th and July 17th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. You choose which Thursday. This class covers: types of Kayaking, Kayak design, basic safety concerns, equipment required, proper clothing, paddling etiquette, where to paddle, how to transport Kayaks, getting in and out safely and efficiently, basic paddle strokes, paddling skills such as: straight line paddling, broad turns, pivot turns, stopping, reversing direction, wet exit, and self rescuing techniques. Some other things that will be covered: navigation and respect for private property and wildlife.
Participants will be required to sign a Sebago Paddling release, the night of class, and will also be required to sign a registration form from the Parks and Recreation Department at the time of registering for the class.

Participants will sign up through the Windham Parks and Recreation department. The cost for this program $20. Classes meet Thursday evening at 6:00pm. For more information please contact the Windham Rec Department at 892-1905, or by contacting Sebago Trails Paddling Co. 894-4696.
