1. What are the hours for the Town Office?

The Town Clerk's Office, Motor & Tax Collection open at 8:00 a.m. and close at 4:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. Passport hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday - Friday in the Motor Vehicle Office. Groups of 3 or more are asked to make an appointment.

2. Why is there a processing fee to use my credit/debit card?

All credit and debit card payments are processed through a third-party processor. We use Municipay; they receive the entire amount of the fee. The convenience fee is 2.65% or a minimum fee of $3.00. You can only use your own card for the transaction.

3. What do I need to get a resident License for IFW? (hunting, fishing etc.)

Resident means: A citizen who has been domiciled in the State for three (3) consecutive months or an alien who has been here for one (1) year. If registered to vote you must be registered in the State of Maine. If licensed to drive, you must have a Valid Maine Motor Vehicle License. If filing a State income tax, you must comply with the State of Maine income tax law or be a student at a Maine college or University, you must reside there continuously for three (3) months and meet all of the requirements above.

Fishing Licenses are required for anyone 16 years old and older or a non-resident who is 12 years and older.

Hunting License requires proof of either:
a) completing a hunter safety course or
b) having held a valid ADULT hunting license in any state

4. Does the Town of Windham have a leash law for dogs?

No, the Town is under the State Law and that reads, "Dogs not to run at large". The Town of Windham also holds a Rabies Clinic every year; it is the first Saturday in December from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. and you may do same-day dog licensing as well.

After October 15th you are eligible to register your dog on-line. Go to www10.informe.org/dog_license/ and follow the instructions.

Dog licenses run from the 1st of January until the end of December. The month of January is granted as a grace period. A late fee of $25.00 starts February 1.

5. What is the Game Warden's number?

6. Do I get a free license being of Indian Descent?

7. What about the Municipal Elections?

Elections for Town Council, RSU#14 School Board and the Town Clerk are held on the first Tuesday following the first Monday in the month of November. Portland Water District is also held this same day every five (5) years.

8. Where do I find out about the Cemeteries in Town?

9. I am doing Genealogy, how do I find records of birth, marriage and death?

Prior to 1892, towns were not required to file records of birth, marriage and death. Some towns have records before 1892, but these are not a complete recording of the event. Windham does have some records before that date. Call the Clerk's Office at 892-1900 to see if we have the record.

10. Does the town have Dump?

No, we have curbside rubbish removal when you purchase the town's blue trash bags and have a recycling bin. Public Works can assist you with any questions by calling 892-1909.

We also have Leaf and Brush Drop-Off in both Spring and Fall. Look in the local town papers for the notices and Windham's local TV station.

11. Where can I get my water tested?

Call 878-6481, Northeast Laboratory Services. Hours are Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

12. Where do I get a Worker's Permit for my child?

At the Superintendent of School's Office. Call 892-1800.

13. How do I reach the Center Stage Theater?

14. Where can I pick up my DD214 paperwork?

If you or a spouse was discharged from the service and you voluntarily filed your DD214 paperwork with the Town of Windham, it would be available at the Clerk's Office .
